Discovering Your Leadership

Discovering your Leadership is designed for early stages of leadership development for aspiring and new leaders.

As a Chartered Management Institute endorsed programme completing it entitles you to a 12 month membership to the Chartered Management Institute.  This includes access to their online resources, management diagnostic tools and a co-branded certificate from the University of Leeds and The Chartered Management Institute.  To qualify for this you must attend all sessions.

This programme is for colleagues whose role requires the input and collaboration of others. You may have limited/some knowledge or experience in applying leadership skills or have infrequent opportunities to connect theory to practice. The programme will be particularly beneficial for colleagues who aspiring leaders or leaders who are new-to-role.

An outline of the programme is as follows:

• Induction session – What does leadership mean to me?
• Session 1 – Difficult conversations & conflict management
• Session 2 – Building collaboration
• Session 3 – Influencing and communication
• Session 4 – Transformational change & next steps

Applications for the current academic year are now closed as all communities are fully booked. There will be two windows to apply for programmes running in 2025/26, details about this will be available on this page in May 2025.

Join us for an information session to learn more about the full range of leadership development programmes offered by OD&PL, each designed to support leaders at different stages of their careers. In the information session, we’ll review the course content, explain the application process, and help you identify which programme may be the best fit for you. There will also be time for any questions you may have.

• Establishing your Leadership – For leaders who are just starting to find their feet in a new leadership role but still feel in transition.
• Connected Leadership – For established leaders who have held a leadership role for at least 12 months and contribute to advancing the University’s strategic goals.
• Aurora – For women (including non-binary and transgender colleagues) in grade 6-8 roles, designed and facilitated by Advance HE.
• Leading in Student Education – For colleagues who hold a leadership role within student education.
